Contributing Works Better . . .

If you have a product or service to sell, how are you letting others know about it?

Are you sending emails to people you don’t know hoping someone takes you up on your offer? That’s what too many people do, not realizing that this approach doesn’t really work as well as it used to (in case someone hasn’t told you yet).

While email marketing has been effective in the past, there’s so much of it nowadays that a lot of it is regarded as SPAM (unsolicited email that was not specifically asked for). And I’m sure you get your fair share, just like I do. So when I finally figured out that I was wasting my time “blasting” emails as it’s called, I decided to use a different approach . . . and by accident, found out this different approach worked.

Two years ago, I discovered that offering something of value to a group of people who were asking for information is a much better way to interest people in what you have. In this particular case, I was reading through the bulletin board on our network marketing company’s website, and found a topic that I could respond to. I offered 2 PDF documents to anyone who wanted them. That one gesture on my part resulted in over 100 people contacting me for those documents! That was the beginning of my very first ‘list’. And because I gave information that others could use in their business, I have been able to periodically email these same people with other useful information.

Since discovering the method of contributing, I’ve come to learn that it’s so much easier to offer something of interest to help someone else than it is to try to sell someone whatever you have. People are searching for information and if you have it to give, do so, without any expectation. Chances are good that people will not only remember you, but will also be more willing to take you up on whatever else you have to offer.

Here’s a recent example that proves that making a contribution works better . . .

As I have mentioned in an earlier post, I belong to a community of network marketers called Network Marketing Central. A new Social Network of Network Marketers, called iGaggle has opened, and within one of the clubs, called the iGaggle Cafe, there was a post Seeking “I know how” volunteers:

“We’re looking for “I know how” idols here.An “I know how” idol is someone who has learned something useful to make their life better or more fun, and offers the tip to someone who might not know it yet.

Just for the fun of it.”

Because I replied with a computer tip that saves time and login details for websites (it’s called RoboForm ) I have been invited to be interviewed on tonight’s “NMC Idol” call!

So if you’d like to know more about RoboForm, or want to find out more about Network Marketing Central and iGaggle, please join us at 5:30PM Pacific, 6:30PM Mountain, 7:30PM Central, 8:30PM Eastern by dialing: 712.945.1601, Access Code: 564758#.
